NANASE TANAKA
Demi-Soloist
Nanase began her ballet training with Mary Ann La Joie-Sandroff in Illinois, USA followed by Kishibe Ballet Studio in Japan. She furthered her training at Elmhurst School for Dance (renamed to Elmhurst Ballet School) in England and graduated in 2009 with a National Diploma in Professional Dance from the Trinity College. As a student, she has danced with the Birmingham Royal Ballet performing in David Bintley’s Beauty and the Beast, MacMillian’s Concerto and Firebird, and toured around UK with the company.
After performing in Swan Lake (2009), Nanase joined Singapore Dance Theatre as an apprentice in January 2010 and was promoted to Artist in September the same year. Her repertoire highlights include Princess Florine, Diamond (pas de trois) and Fairy of Energy in Sleeping Beauty, the pas de trois, Cygnets and Spanish in Swan Lake, Dewdrop, Spanish and Icicles in Janek Schergen’s The Nutcracker, Moyna in Giselle and Juliet’s friends in Romeo and Juliet. Nanase has danced in other classical works like Coppélia, Don Quixote, Bournonville Divertissements, Raymonda Divertissements and Paquita, as well as George Balanchine’s Divertimento No. 15 (5 Principal Lady), Theme and Variations, Allegro Brillante, Serenade (Russian Demis), Rubies and Concerto Barocco.
Other choreographer’s works include Choo-San Goh’s Double Contrasts, Fives, Schubert Symphony, Unknown Territory, Momentum and In the Glow of the Night, Nil’s Christe’s ZIN!, Organ Concerto, Symphony in Three Movements, SYNC, Val Caniparoli’s Chant, Edwaard Liang’s As Above, So Below, The Winds of Zephyrus, Age of Innocence, Opus 25, Toru Shimazaki’s Blue Snow, Unexpected B, Absence of Story, Tim Harbour’s Another Energy and Linea Adora, Timothy Rushton’s Quiver, Evening Voices and Without You, Natalie Weir’s 4Seasons, Alice Topp’s After Happy Ever, and other pieces like Nameless, Jabula, Living Greens, Waiting…, Evening at the Ritz, Midnight Waltzes and the Peter & Blue series.
Nanase was promoted to Demi-Soloist in January 2020.
