JESSICA GARSIDE
Artist
Born in Perth, Western Australia, Jessica started ballet at the age of 6 at Terri Charlesworth Ballet Centre. In 2011 she was accepted into the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). At WAAPA she had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Nils Christe, Kim McCarthy and Xiaoxiong Zhang and perform in a range of repertoire, including Balanchine’s Serenade and Jardi Tancat by Nacho Duato.
Jessica graduated from WAAPA with an Advanced Diploma of Performing Arts (Dance) and a Bachelor of Performing Arts, receiving three awards and the Paulette Carson Ballet Scholarship. In 2015 she moved to Germany to complete her Masters at Akademie des Tanzes in Mannheim. During that year she danced with Badisches Staatsballett Karlsruhe as a trainee, where she performed in The Taming of the Shrew, Youri Vámos’ The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty, and Terence Kohler’s Das Kleine Schwarze/ The Riot of Spring. Jessica has also performed professionally with West Australian Ballet in Serenade in 2012 and Giselle in 2014. In 2016 she performed the principal role of Swanhilde in Charlesworth Ballet’s production of Coppélia.
Jessica joined Singapore Dance Theatre as an apprentice in March 2017, and was promoted to Artist in January 2018. Since joining the company she has performed in Coppélia, The Nutcracker, Giselle, the Peter & Blue series, Don Quixote, Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet. She has also danced in Paquita, The Four Temperaments, Organ Concerto, Linea Adora, Fives, Evening Voices, Serenade, SYNC, Blue Snow, Family Reunion, Jabula and ZIN!
