MADELEINE HALBAUER
ADULT DANCE TEACHER

Classically trained at English National Ballet School and Royal Swedish Ballet School, Madeleine is a Swedish-Singaporean professional dancer, artist and STOTT Pilates teacher. While still in ballet school in London, she auditioned for Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) and joined the company in 2009 when she was only 19.

Before that, Madeleine was selected to understudy roles for the English National Ballet’s Rite of Spring and the Royal Swedish Ballet’s Swan Lake and Romeo & Juliet.

On her 20th birthday, Madeleine performed for the first time at Esplanade with SDT in Swan Lake as Swans and Czardas. She was the original SDT cast for ZIN! and Waiting. During the rest of her career with SDT, she performed in Serenade, Divertimento No. 15 (8 Ladies), Swan Lake (Waltz, Swans, Princesses), Paquita, The Nutcracker (Clara’s mother, Snowflake, Waltz of the Flowers), Fearful Symmetries, Nameless, Concerto Barocco, Romeo & Juliet, Sleeping Beauty (Lilac Fairy Attendant, Waltz, Nymph) and Giselle (Wili).

At English National Ballet School, Madeleine was one of the chosen ones to perform at the 60th birthday celebration for HRH Prince of Wales Prince Charles in the TV and stage production We Are Most Amused. Further, she had the solo role as Milkmaid in Façade and in English National Ballet School’s Choreography Competition, where Wayne Eagling and Wayne McGregor sat as judges, she was selected as a finalist.

Madeleine’s artistic experience with Royal Swedish Ballet School includes Coppélia (Dance of the Hours, Friends), The Uprooting, La Sylphide (Sylph, Scottish Dance), and The Little Match Girl (the lead). When the Estonian National Opera Ballet guested Sweden in 2003, Madeleine was part of their Christmas performance, The Nutcracker.

Having lived, danced and worked in Vancouver (Canada), London (UK), Stockholm (Sweden) and Singapore, Madeleine started teaching ballet while still performing with SDT. In 2014 she did her STOTT Pilates teacher course in Stockholm and became a certified instructor. The same year, she received the Swedish Arts Grants Committee scholarship to attend the Batsheva Gaga Intensive Summer Course in New York (US), to develop and expand her horizons as a dancer. Other scholarships include the Milk Energy Young Artist Award and the Art Scholarship by The Carina Ari Foundation. In 2022 she furthered her education with STOTT Pilates, Injuries & Special Populations course.

Madeleine’s debut as an actress was in Vancouver in 2017 in Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero as Kay Strange, a production by Vagabond Players. The following years she spent in Stockholm working for Fotografiska International before moving back to Singapore. Currently, she works with BankerWessel and has resumed teaching Pilates and ballet classes at Singapore Ballet.
