2022: The Sound Was Our Ocean by Loughlan Prior
Working with Singapore Ballet for the first time ever, Loughlan created a moving piece that is characterised by its layers, depth, and fluid movement quality for Passages Contemporary Season 2022. It is danced to the pulsing, turbulent musical language of New Zealand / UK composer John Metcalfe. Exploring the idea that sound-waves can be used as a sculptural form to generate choreographic architecture.
2020/2021: Ibsen’s House by Val Caniparoli (Performed in 2022)
The Ambassador’s Circle 2020 and 2021 acquired the company premiere of Ibsen’s House by Val Caniparoli. Ibsen’s House was staged for our 34th anniversary season at Masterpiece in Motion 2022 (after a 2-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic), and to have brought such an esteemed ballet to Singapore is a tremendous artistic achievement for Singapore Ballet.
2019: Passages Contemporary
Ambassador’s Circle 2019 will acquire PASSAGES Contemporary Season again with a world premiere specially for SDT by choreographer Lucas Jervies! Natalie Weir’s Bittersweet, Toru Shimazki’s Blue Snow and Val Caniparoli’s Swipe will return to Passages 2019 on the Singapore stage for new and existing loyal supporters to create or reminisce your own individual moments and memories of SDT.
2018: SDT’s 30th Anniversary Gala
Ambassador’s Circle 2018 acquired the world premiere of Linea Adora# by Timothy Harbour and the company premiere of SYNC by Nils Christe as part of the celebrations of SDT’s 30 years of growth and development.
2017: The Four Temperaments by George Balanchine
The Four Temperaments is “an expression in dance and music of the ancient notion that the human organism is made up of four different humours, or temperaments.”
2016: Symphony in Three Movements by Nils Christe
Symphony in Three Movements was Christe’s fourth work with the company. Inspired by the emotions and stories during World War Two, this piece evokes a sense of ache and longing during a time of war.
2015: Passages Contemporary Season
For the first-time ever, the Ambassador’s Circle 2015 acquired an entire season, featuring three brand new works – Sticks and Stones# by Kinsun Chan, Bliss# by Gigi Gianti, and Incandescent Dream# by Max Chen.
2014: Swipe by Val Caniparoli
Swipe is a high octane piece that requires ballet’s precision, the curve and attack of earthborne steps and the relaxed ease of walking; presented in all fluency.
2013: Theme and Variations by George Balanchine
Theme and Variations is a grand masterpiece and was intended, as Balanchine wrote: “to evoke that great period in classical dancing when Russian ballet flourished with the aid of Tchaikovsky’s music”.
2012: Age of Innocence by Edwaard Liang
Age of Innocence was created for Joffrey Ballet in 2008. This piece is inspired by the novels of Jane Austen and the women of her era.
2011: Fearful Symmetries by Nils Christe
Fearful Symmetries has incredible drive and is high voltage. This piece has an element of “travelling”, or going somewhere.
2010: Serenade by George Balanchine
Serenade has come to be considered as the signature piece of the New York City Ballet and is one of Balanchine’s most widely performed works.
2009: Concerto Barocco by George Balanchine
Set to Bach’s Concerto in D minor for Two Violins, Concerto Barocco is an example of George Balanchine’s love of a dialogue between movement and music.
