Artistic Development Fund

For almost four decades, Singapore Ballet has inspired audiences through the beauty and artistry of ballet. While the great classical masterpieces remain at the heart of our repertoire, the creation of new works is what enables the company to evolve, innovate, and develop a distinctive artistic voice.

Commissioning original ballets is central to Singapore Ballet’s artistic growth. Each new work strengthens our unique identity, allowing us to tell stories and express ideas that are relevant to our time and place.

These creations also provide invaluable opportunities for our dancers to expand their artistic and technical capabilities through collaboration with leading international choreographers, exposing them to new creative processes, movement vocabularies, and artistic perspectives.

For audiences, new commissions offer the rare opportunity to experience world premieres and original works by some of the world’s foremost choreographic voices without leaving Singapore. Singapore Ballet is proud to have presented 55 world premieres to audiences in Singapore and hope to continue this trajectory.

Bringing a new ballet to the stage, however, requires a significant investment. Beyond choreographic commissions and royalties, each production requires international travel and accommodation for creative teams, original costumes, bespoke sets and lighting and music preparation to transform an artistic vision into a fully realised performance. Costume costs alone increase substantially with the size of the cast, making large-scale productions especially resource intensive.

This year, we will be presenting a new work by leading US choreographer Matthew Neenan while Singapore Ballet’s very own Shan Del Vecchio will premiere a new work called Pulse after an extensive choreographic process. These works will be staged at Passages from 5 Nov to 8 Nov.

Your support of the Artistic Development Fund will enable Singapore Ballet to continue commissioning exceptional artists, nurture our artists and present bold new works that enrich Singapore’s cultural landscape while building a legacy for future generations.

All donations are eligible for a 250% tax deduction. Donors will also receive complimentary tickets and discounts to our dance classes and performances.
