Buoyed by a collective longing for the theatre, The Rhythm of Us leads audiences on a lyrical journey with three works, culminating in the remembrance of the transcendence and wonder of live music and dance.
Made In Singapore 2021
Initiated by Artistic Director, Janek Schergen, as an annual collaboration between SDT and budding choreographers, the SDT Choreographic Workshop has seen and groomed many talents. It differs from other dance workshops as its intention is to build on developing choreographic language through a sense of exploration.
From Here On
From Here On is a presentation of four moving and beautiful pas de deux, and the result of a collaboration between Singapore Dance Theatre and Esplanade, and supported by the National Arts Council (NAC). This is the first performance of its kind since life in the arts sector was unexpectedly halted by COVID-19.
Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is one of the world’s most classic romance and it will be performed to Prokofiev’s heart-rendering music played by the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra. This year, for the first time, Romeo and Juliet will be presented by three unique casts, two of which will be having their debut.
Swan Lake
A classic tale for everyone, Swan Lake offers a timeless story and a spectacle unlike any other. With exquisite costumes and enchanting moments, this classic masterpiece remains to be the favourite ballet of many children and adults. A timeless jewel in the crown by the legendary choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, Swan Lake is well established in SDT’s repertoire.

Passages Contemporary Season has always had its unique personality and profile within the SDT performance calendar. It had most often been used to introduce choreographers that are new to our audiences and for the presentation of either world premieres or company premieres. It is a place that fills the spirit of the initial concept of SDT perfectly.

Peter & Blue children’s series has established itself, over the past six years, as some of SDT’s happiest annual performances. The dancers get a big thrill out of the immediate response in performing for young audiences and bringing them into the world inhabited by Peter, his dog, Blue and cat, Calico, with all their adventures.
Don Quixote
Selected by Dance Europe Critic’s Choice as one of the Best Premieres of the year, Singapore Dance Theatre’s Don Quixote garnered rave reviews and fronted Dance Europe’s cover in January 2015! SDT will open its’ 2019 season with Don Quixote from 7 – 10 March 2019, at the Esplanade Theatre.
Sleeping Beauty
This holiday season, come reminisce this fantasy that we all love from 6 – 9 December 2018 at the Esplanade Theatre. Sleeping Beauty will be performed to live music by the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra. Sleeping Beauty will warm your heart with its charming sets and grand elegance. Ballet Under the Stars
Ballet Under the Stars is back for its 23rd edition! Established by Singapore Dance Theatre in 1995 as Singapore’s most loved and iconic outdoor dance event at the Fort Canning Green, we will be presenting a weekend of neo-classical works and another weekend dedicated to masterpieces by Singapore Choreographer Choo-San Goh.

For the third time running, Celebration in Dance is a collaboration between Singapore Dance Theatre and the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) for a one-night-only performance. This production presents a rare and brilliant opportunity for RAD students in Singapore to perform on the prestigious stage at the Esplanade Theatre. SDT will be presenting Double Contrasts by Choo-San Goh and The Tarantella from the ballet Napoli by August Bournonville as well.
30th Anniversary Gala
In celebration of Singapore Dance Theatre’s 30 years of history, this season presents some of the most compelling and exquisite works of the year. An evening of ballet gems, the company’s 30th anniversary gala performance will see four works – Timothy Harbour’s world premiere of Linea Adora which is created especially for SDT’s 30th anniversary, the company premiere of Nils Christe’s SYNC, as well as Choo-San Goh’s Double Contrasts and the pas de deux from Configurations.
Peter & Blue’s Forest Adventure
This children’s production tells the story of the ever-inquisitive trio – Peter, his dog, Blue, and his cat, Calico. The trio embarks on yet another magical adventure where they meet Peter’s friends, the Blueberry boys, Apple Blossom girls, the Dragonflies and Bumblebee!
Giselle
Drawing audiences into a work that embodies elements of the Romantic period, Giselle is a ballet filled with thrilling, mysterious and captivating beauty. As breath taking as it is heart-breaking, Giselle tackles the gamut of human emotions, delving into the darker shades of humanity, including elements of madness and revenge, thus making many critics refer to Giselle as ‘the Hamlet of ballets’.

Ballet Under the Stars is back for its 22nd edition! Established by Singapore Dance Theatre in 1995 as Singapore’s most loved and iconic outdoor dance event at the Fort Canning Green, SDT will be presenting a contemporary weekend from 1 – 3 September and classical works from 8 – 10 September.

Peter & Blue’s Birthday Party
This June holidays, Singapore Dance Theatre will be presenting its annual Peter & Blue's Birthday Party. Choreographed by Artistic Director Janek Schergen, this is an hour-long ballet production which brings together the magic of fairy-tale and delightful dancing.
Coppélia
Coppélia is one of SDT’s favourite full-length classical ballets from our repertoire. This euphoric ballet was first performed by SDT in 1995 with staging by Colin Peasley of The Australian Ballet. With original choreography by Arthur St. Léon, Coppélia is staged with additional choreography by Janek Schergen.
The Nutcracker
With choreography and staging by SDT Artistic Director Janek Schergen, set to a vibrant score by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, with some of the world’s most unforgettable music, this enchanting ballet will feature a spectacular set and gorgeous costumes by local designer Aaron Yap, as well as characters that will dance their way into your hearts.

For the first time ever, SDT will be collaborating with Timothy Harbour, the Resident Choreographer of Australian Ballet to create a world premiere for the company. Singapore choreographer, Christina Chan, will also be presenting a new work, which will be her fourth creation for SDT since 2012.
Celebration in Dance
For the first time ever, Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) has collaborated with Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) for a one night only performance, entitled “A Celebration in Dance”. Happening on 21 August 2016 at The Esplanade Theatre, the intention is to invite RAD schools, located in Singapore, to perform alongside SDT in a gala evening performance.

Masterpiece in Motion is the name given to our international repertory season to give an overarching theme to the evening. It is a “triple bill” of three works representing what it is that stands at the heart of the foundation of SDT. We challenge ourselves with works by choreographers of impeccable distinction, in ballets that add tremendous richness to our performances.
Ballet Under The Stars
Ballet Under the Stars started in 1995, and has since grown from a single weekend performance to a two-weekend experience, complete with balloon sculpting, food and beverage booth, exclusive merchandise on sale, and more. From local dance enthusiasts, to picnic-loving tourists, all are invited and welcomed to unwind with a sumptuous picnic spread at the park, and enjoy an evening of dance with family and friends!

Don Quixote was first presented by Singapore Dance Theatre as the concluding highlight of our 2014 season. The decision to present such an important ballet signaled a new maturity in the level of SDT, in every element, from the artistry and abilities of the dancers, to the production values necessary to bring such a masterpiece onto the stage.
Swan Lake
An enthralling revival of the world's most beloved ballet, Swan Lake will bring the year to a spectacular finale as SDT rekindles this famous classical masterpiece. A ballet for all ages, Swan Lake tells the story of undying love, a cruel twist of fate, and the promise of devotion.
Passages
In light of our nation’s 50th anniversary, SDT joins this jubilant occasion by showcasing brand new ballets by Singapore’s very own dance choreographers. SDT will celebrate and develop our current talents by having two previous Passages choreographic workshop create two complete works – Gigi Gianti (2011) and Max Chen (2013).
Masterpiece In Motion
In its sixth season, Masterpiece in Motion continues to bring in world-class ballets like the world premiere of Midnight Waltzes by François Klaus, as well as the company premiere of Bournonville Divertissement by legendary choreographer August Bournonville, staged by Dinna Bjorn. We will also showcase one of our existing repertoire, Opus 25 by Edwaard Liang
Ballet Under The Stars
2015 will mark the 20th year that SDT has presented Ballet Under the Stars in Fort Canning Park. I doubt anyone thought that when it first started in 1995, that the outdoor dance performances we presented then would become the iconic annual event it has grown into today.
Peter & Blue Birthday Party
SDT’s annual children season performance, returns after the successful productions of Peter & Blue’s Birthday Party in 2013, Peter & Blue’s Forest Adventure in 2010, 2011 and 2014, and, Peter & Blue Go Around the World in 2012. Peter & Blue’s Birthday Party is the final story of this exciting three-part ballet series.
Sleeping Beauty
A treat for all ages, audiences will be captivated by this timeless tale about a beautiful princess, a spell of 100 years sleep, a charming prince and a true love’s kiss which awakens the kingdom’s slumber. Sleeping Beauty is a visual spectacle of music and dance with a rich score by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and stunning costumes designed by Tracy Grant Lord.
Don Quixote
Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) presents the company premiere of Don Quixote; one of the most cherished classical ballets of the 19th century repertoire. A celebratory conclusion to the 2014 season, Don Quixote will be from 4-7 December 2014, at the Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay. Don Quixote is the first new full-length classical ballet to be added to SDT’s existing repertoire in the past seven years.

Back by popular demand, Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) will be restaging Peter & Blue’s Forest Adventure from 5 - 8 June at the Esplanade Theatre Studio. Created by SDT Artistic Director Janek Schergen, this hour-long children’s ballet production brings together meaningful morals in a time of fun and adventure.
Romeo and Juliet
Goh Choo San’s moving interpretation of this romantic tragedy in three acts is inspired by Shakespeare’s timeless classic tale of two lovers from two feuding families in Verona, Italy, brought together by fate. Be mesmerised by the beauty of dance through the enduring story of the beloved star-crossed lovers, set against a powerful score by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev.
The Nutcracker
The Singapore Dance Theatre celebrates the holiday season with the return of the quintessential Christmas classic, The Nutcracker, from 4 – 8 December at The Esplanade Theatre. SDT will present its version of The Nutcracker, first staged in 2011, which will bring audiences on a journey through the pre-WWI, turn of the century Shanghai. The ballet will feature your favourite and familiar characters including Clara, the Snow Queen, the Sugar Plum fairy and her Cavalier.

Coppélia
As Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) celebrates its 25th Silver Anniversary, the Company is proud to open its 2013 season with one of the most well-loved comedy ballets, Coppélia – The Girl with Enamel Eyes. A new staging by Artistic Director Janek Schergen, featuring original choreography by Arthur Saint-Leon, Coppélia is set to a ballet libretto by Charles Nuittier, with music by Léo Delibes.
Sleeping Beauty
In celebration of the magical Christmas season, a time of love, hope and festivities, Singapore Dance Theatre will enchant audiences with Sleeping Beauty, a ballet often considered as the pinnacle of classical repertoire. Swan Lake
Artistic Director, Janek Schergen and the Singapore Dance Theatre will present Swan Lake, perhaps the most famous and well-known ballet of all time, from 15 to 18 March 2012 at the Esplanade Theatre. This is the third time the SDT is presenting this ballet, having performed it in 2007 and 2009.
The Nutcracker
Join The Nutcracker on a tinsel journey through pre- WWI, turn-of-the-century, colonial Shanghai. This new version of the timeless classic by Tchaikovsky is a light-hearted tale of adventure and courage featuring Clara and her adventures after she receives a beautifully-crafted nutcracker doll from her toymaker uncle, Dr Drosselmeyer.

Fledgling choreographers have limited opportunities to set their works on professional dancers, but Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) circumvents this limitation by collaborating with the National Museum of Singapore to present Passages, where four young choreographers will be invited to work with SDT dancers to produce new and original dance creations that are best suited for the black box theatre space.

Created by Artistic Director Janek Schergen, Peter and Blue’s Forest Adventure is a new one-hour children ballet blending elements of a fairy-tale with a meaningful moral. The story unveils on a sunny midsummer morning, when Peter, together with his dog, Blue, and cat, Calico, venture into the enchanted forest to search for treats to surprise his mother on her birthday.

A great romantic ballet soars onto the stage as Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) presents Giselle this March at Victoria Theatre, with staging by Janek Schergen, after Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot. Drawing audiences into a work that embodies elements of the Romantic period, Giselle is a ballet filled with mystery, otherworldly beauty, excitement, danger and death.
