KENYA NAKAMURA
Principal

Kenya trained at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington DC from 2002 to 2006 on a full scholarship. He continued his training in 2006 at John Cranko Ballet School Academy. The following year, he undertook a professional training programme at Ellison Ballet in New York. In 2002, Kenya won the third prize at the Youth America Grand Prix and in 2004, won the third prize at the International Competition in Vienna. He was also awarded the Award of Encouragement at the World Ballet Competition in 2007.

Kenya joined SDT as a full-time dancer in February 2011 and was promoted to Soloist in January 2012. His repertoire highlights include Romeo in Romeo and Juliet (2014, 2020), the lead role of the Cavalier & Snow King in The Nutcracker (2011, 2013, 2016), the lead role of Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake (2012, 2015, 2019), the lead in Paquita (2012, 2016, 2017), Prince Florimund in Sleeping Beauty (2012, 2015, 2018), Franz in Coppélia (2013, 2017), Albrecht in Giselle (2013, 2018), and Basilio in Don Quixote (2014, 2016). Kenya most recently performed his role debut in Romeo and Juliet (2020) as Tybalt.

He has danced the principal roles in Configurations pas de deux, Bournonville Divertissements, Flower Festival pas de deux, Double Contrasts, Age of Innocence, Opus 25, The Winds of Zephyrus, Midnight Waltzes, Theme and Variations, Divertimento No. 15, Allegro Brillante, Peter & Blue Go Around the World, Slide, Sticks and Stones, Shadow’s Edge, Paquita, Incandescent Dream, Jabula, 4Seasons, Maninyas, Another Energy, Absence of Story, Lambarena, The Four Temperaments, 13th Heaven, Symphony in Three MovementsLinea AdoraSYNCSchubert Symphony and Unknown Territory.
