KENSUKE YOROZU
Soloist
Kensuke was born in Shiga, Japan. At the age of five, Kensuke began studying ballet in the USA and continued his training at Mie Hatanaka Ballet Studio in Japan. In 2006, he joined the summer programme of San Francisco Ballet School on a full scholarship, and later went to The Washington School of Ballet to continue his studies, on a full scholarship. There, he was trained by Kee-Juan Han, Carlos Valcarcel and Rudolf Kharatian.
Kensuke joined The Washington Ballet Studio Company from 2008 to 2010 under Artistic Director, Septime Webre. He performed in various productions such as Septime Webre’s The Nutcracker, Anna Marie Holme’s Don Quixote, August Bournonville’s La Sylphide, Lila York’s Celts and leading roles in George Balanchine’s Who Cares. He was a finalist at The World Ballet Competition in Orlando 2010.
In September 2010, Kensuke joined SDT as a full-time Artist. His SDT repertoire highlights include Bluebird and pas de trois Silver in Janek Schergen’s Sleeping Beauty (2010, 2012, 2015, 2018), Icicles (2011), Soldiers (2011, 2013), Mouse King (2013), Snow King (2016) and Spanish (2013, 2016) in The Nutcracker (2011, 2013, 2016), Mandolin Dance in Goh Choo San’s Romeo and Juliet (2011, 2014), Rothbart and Spanish in Swan Lake (2012, 2015, 2019), Blueberry Boy in Peter and Blue Go Around the World and Peter and Blue’s Birthday Party, Coppélia, and Gypsy King in Don Quixote (2014, 2016) as well as Hilarion in Giselle.
He also danced in Bournonville Divertissements, La Ventana, Tarantella, Shift or Go, Traces We Left Behind, Double Contrasts, Age of Innocence, Fives, Schubert Symphony, The Winds of Zephyrus, Opus 25, Piano Concerto #2 Opus 102, Midnight Waltzes, Divertimento No. 15, Theme and Variations, Allegro Brillante, Serenade, Sticks and Stones, Shadow’s Edge, Incomparable Beauty, Jabula, 4Seasons, Maninyas, Chant, Swipe, Fearful Symmetries, ZIN!, Organ Concerto, Another Energy, Absence of Story, Blue Snow, The Four Temperaments, Symphony in Three Movements, Unexpected B, Linea Adora, SYNC, Evening Voices, Triptych and Quiver.
Kensuke was promoted to Soloist in January 2016. He most recently performed in Romeo and Juliet (2020) as Tybalt and Mandolin Dance.
