AKIRA NAKAHAMA
Soloist
Akira began her professional dance training with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, which she attended from 2004 to 2009. When she graduated in 2009, Akira joined The Washington School of Ballet. While she was there, she performed in various productions including Septime Webre’s The Nutcracker, The Great Gatsby, Push Comes to Shove and The Four Temperaments.
Akira joined SDT in October 2010 as an apprentice and was promoted to Artist in 2012. Her repertoire highlights include Sugarplum Fairy in The Nutcracker (2016), Sleeping Beauty pas de deux in Jakarta, as well as the Cygnets (2015, 2019), pas de trois and Princesses (2019) in Swan Lake, Cupid in Don Quixote (2014), White Cat in Sleeping Beauty (2015) and the pas de trios in Paquita (2017). She has performed in Romeo and Juliet, Paquita, Chinese Flowers and Shepherdess in The Nutcracker (2013), Swanilda in Coppélia Act lll as well as Zulma in Giselle.
She has also danced in Bournonville Divertissements, La Ventana pas de trois, Tarantella, Fives, Schubert Symphony, Hold the Fourth, Opus 25, The Winds of Zephyrus, Midnight Waltzes, Concerto Barocco, Serenade, Divertimento No. 15, Allegro Brillante, Rubies, Theme and Variations, Bliss, Peter & Blue Go Around the World, ZIN!, Organ Concerto, 4Seasons, Jabula, Blue Snow, Raymonda, Swipe, Symphony in Three Movements, Age of Innocence, Chant, The Four Temperaments, 13th Heaven, Unexpected B, Linea Adora, SYNC, Midnight Waltzes, Shadow’s Edge, Evening Voices and Quiver.
Akira was promoted to Soloist in January 2019. She most recently performed her role debut in Romeo and Juliet (2020) as Juliet.
